two

Well here we are again.  A year further along and I’m writing about a birthday.  It feels like it was only a few months ago that I was writing about her first birthday.  But alas, it has been an entire year and this past Friday we welcomed Sadie into her 2nd year.

We threw her a small breakfast birthday party over the weekend with a few of her playmates.  It was a great time and I’ll post photos and details soon.  But today I just wanted to celebrate the number 2.

I crept into Sadie’s room while she slept just a day before she turned two.  She looked so peaceful and so beautiful and I couldn’t help myself take an impromptu photo shoot.  I carefully studied all of her features just as I did when she was a sleeping newborn.  The changes she has gone through in such a short amount of time are absolutely remarkable.

I used to sit and try and imagine what she would look like with hair, now she has a silky blond heap of it that she is constantly pushing out of her face.  Her little nostrils used to be so small I feared that if a piece of lint landed in the passage way that she would suffocate.  Her legs and arms were so smooth and soft, now she has a very fine layer of blond hair making it’s way across her arms and legs.  The chubby rolls of her arms and legs are thinning out and turning into muscular legs that she uses to climb, run and jump.

My little baby child, is now more than ever such a big girl.  The way she talks, the speed and steadiness in which she runs, her memory, the way she loves…  For me personally, terrible twos is not something I feel.  I feel much more strongly toward the term terrific twos.  Because this is it.  She is so very truly becoming who she is.  And this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.  Throughout my pregnancy, and through the entire first year I have thought over and over… who will this little girl be.  And she is finally starting to show me.

And since this is her 2 year post – it’s only natural that I take a look back at how far she’s come.  And since I’m on the sleeping photo kick… I might as well stay with it.

So here is a look at Sadie back at 1 year…

And here she is as a newborn..

Thank you all for following along with us for these past two years.  It’s been fun documenting it all.

And Happy 2nd Birthday to you Sadie Lynn.  Love you madly.

baby reunion

Right after I became a mother I began my quest of meeting other new moms in my area.  I lucked out early in my search and met other mommy, Michelle and her daughter Georgia at a Gymboree class when the girls were about 12 weeks old.  We hit it off from the start and continued to get together until I moved away from LA a year ago.

We have kept in contact and compared notes on the girls’ developments throughout this past year, despite not having the chance to get together face to face.  So when Michelle informed me that they were coming to SF to visit I was so excited to get the girls together again.

The last time the girls saw each other, they weren’t even walking.  Hell, Sadie wasn’t even crawling!  So seeing them interact now as big kids was so much fun.  Not that they remembered each other, but they really did enjoy their shared playtime.  A year may not be such a significant chunk of time to an adult, but to a baby it is literally a lifetime.  And it is just wonderful to see how much has changed and how vastly different even babies can be right from the start.  Georgia and Sadie were born literally days apart from each other but have completely different skill sets, abilities, likes, dislikes and personality traits.

This parenting thing never ceases to amaze me.  Watching a person grow from nothing and turn into fully functioning human is the most interesting and jaw dropping experience in the world.  I swear, even if Sadie someday becomes an Olympian, I will be sitting up in the bleachers watching her in amazement thinking, I can’t believe she is walking.  For me, even the smallest of a milestone is cause for celebration.  Every step of it is pure magic.

18 months

Late! Like 3 weeks late, oops!  But, all the same, Sadie did turn 18 months last month.  She is steadily approaching her terrible twos.  She has been stretching those sea legs lately and giving those pesky tantrums a good college try.  And let me tell ya, she’s pretty darn good at em.  She’s conquered some of the great places, it’s like checking in on Foursquare for babies – instead of using a mobile device to do so, she checks in by screaming, kicking and rolling on the ground crying.  So far she’s become the Mayor of Ikea, Target, Trader Joe’s, the hardware store and the neighborhood beauty salon.

But in all sincerity, she is a joy.  She is the perfect little girl and more than I ever could have hoped for.

I often go back and think about life without her, and how much more she has filled my life with love and meaning since she arrived.  I think about how far we both have come, but really I think about her journey.  From a troubled pregnancy, to a 5 lb preemie, to this beautiful, energetic and courageous child.  You would never ever guess by looking at her all of the things the doctors told me she would be.  Because she isn’t anything less than perfect.

All of these beautiful photos were taken during a professional photo shoot by Bella Baby Photography, which was an amazing gift from my Mom & Dad.  Thanks Mom and Dad, we will always treasure these photos.

2011: A Year in Reflection

It’s just about that time when we all gather together to celebrate those last 10 seconds of the year and ring in the new one with some booze and a kiss.

Hope you have someone special for that kiss.

I find myself at this time of year also reflecting on everything that has happened (the good and the bad) and I think about where we are headed and what may possibly come of 2012. Except for a few mini-vacations and a family wedding, we have no concrete plans for the year.  But, I’m so looking forward to what could be in store.  I love new adventures.

2011 was a wonderful year.  Most of it was spent loving and adoring a beautiful baby girl into the amazing toddler that she is now. And another big part was making the move to San Francisco!  We reached a few milestones and celebrated Sadie’s 1st birthday, and our 2nd wedding anniversary.

Really what happened is that we learned a lot about ourselves this year.  With much trial and error, we have come a long way as parents – and have learned so much about each other.  Embarking into parenthood with someone is not for the faint of heart.  We shed many tears and had our fair share of disagreements, but at the end of the day year, we are a strong loving family.  And we are figuring it out together, one day at a time.

Here’s a look back at some memories from 2011.

road trip to San Francisco, January

February, first time trying out those swimming legs…

March

April…

celebrating my very 1st Mothers Day, May…

June, my sister got engaged…

July, Sadie met some extended family & went to the beach for the first time…

August, we put our home up for rent and packed up our stuff to move to San Francisco…

September…

October, we celebrated Sadie’s 1st Birthday and experienced Autumn as a family…

November…  We found a sweet spot in our daily routine when bath time became designated daddy & daughter time.  I get some much needed time off, and Devin gets quality time with the munchkin.

I cooked and hosted my very first Thanksgiving dinner… success!

December, for the first time we got to experience a cold weather December.  We spent time with new friends and enjoyed all the magic that this season brings…

and of course… THIS happened…

We wish you all a very Happy New Year, see you in 2012.

11 months

Ahhhh! The count down is here.  Very much alike the end of my pregnancy I find myself counting the days until Sadie is one year old.  Gosh, it has flown by so fast!  My sweet Sadie is 11 months old today.  And what a fun happy kid she is turning into.

She is beautiful, smart and very funny.  She is the life of the party.  And if there isn’t a party going on – she makes one.  She’s becoming so independent, which is kind of scary.  She obviously feels the desire to explore and do things on her own.  She doesn’t need mom and dad to feed her, or turn the pages in a book.  She doesn’t need us to put a binky in her mouth or put toys away in their bins.  She’s ready to not be a baby, and join the world of toddlers – but are we ready?? Yikes.

There’s not so many photos of lil lady’s face lately.  She’s always on the move, and apparently I’m always a step behind.

She’s not walking yet.  But it seems as if that is very near.  She is so fast and skilled at crawling and standing up seems to be her new job.  I’m hoping to have a walking birthday girl… we shall see!

Her newest thing is giving me tight grip hugs.  I melt.  She wraps her little arms so tight around my neck and hugs her head around mine and squeezes.  Bliss, I tell you, bliss.

I just can’t get over how much she and I have both grown since her birth 11 months ago.  It is such an honor to be a mother and such a joy to be hers.  I love you Sadie, happy 11 month birthday.

Then & Now : 8 months

Sunday marked Sadie’s 8th month of life.  Hooray!  My oh my she has grown in these 8 months.  From a tiny 6lb little preemie to a chubby baby scooting around the living room taking her attitude along with her.  So far, it’s been one hell of a great ride.  I’m sure I’ll be celebrating her 1st birthday in just a blink of an eye.

Here’s a look back… Sadie at 2 weeks old.

And today… Sadie at 8 months.

She has a new found love for eating grass and mud – and trying to suck on the dogs toys, and crying when the dog takes them back.

She loves going on walks, seeing other babies and getting loved on by our friends.  Her Auntie Stephi loves her…

Stephi tries to teach her about the important things in life, like Spring Break…

Sadie doesn’t like Spring Break… and I’m a proud Mom.

More than anything, her favorite thing in life right now is Mom & Dad.  And I can’t complain about that!

Happy 1/2 Birthday!

Today marks the day that Sadie is 1/2 a year old.  She is right smack in between being a newborn and a little walking lady.  Six months ago, I was terrified.  I’d never really been around babies, especially newborns and I thought that I’d have no idea how to care for this little infant.  Six months later I feel like wonder woman.  She loves me and needs me and I love her and need her and everything has fallen into sync.

So here’s a look back at where we were six months ago and where we are today.  Look how far we’ve come!

She was so tiny in our arms.  It was near impossible to actually find clothing that fit her, everything just hung off of her little body.

And now she’s our little chunkster.  Gaining over 10 lbs since birth and whole lotta attitude to go along with the rolls.

Happy 1/2 Birthday to my little monkey.  We love her so. – And if you wouldn’t mind we’d love your vote as a 1/2 birthday present.  Click below! Thanks!

S(bye)SW

This morning Devin is packing his bags.  He is headed off to Texas for a week of the Tech portion of South by South West Conference.  As he is packing up and revisiting his itinerary I thought I would dig up some old photos of the last time he and I went to SXSW.

We were younger and cooler.  Devin played in a band and DJ’d a few parties.  I was the mega fan in the front of the stage drinking beer and getting sweaty on the dance floor.

My my, things sure have altered a bit.

We are on the far left… the rest of the group are friends Sunny, Emi, Julie, Kim & Brad.  Apparently we are on an ice cream break.

Photos Through Time.

Sunny Shokrae has been a friend to Devin and I for a very long time.  She is an amazing photographer originally from LA but now based out of NYC.  We were so fortunate to have her shoot our wedding photos for us, they are perfect – captured the entire day beautifully.

I was recently looking back at our wedding photos and thought about all of the photos Sunny has taken of us through the years.  She has been there since Devin and I were just friends.  She was actually one of the first people I told when Devin and I began dating.  She was there to witness the entire relationship bloom from friends to marriage.  I thought it was only fitting to do a photo montage of our relationship through Sunny’s lens.  Enjoy!
