We love homemade.

Now that Sadie is relishing in the delights of solid food we have begun shopping at our weekly Farmers Market to pick up locally grown organics to make for her.  I really love doing this.  It’s a fun adventure for the family and it feels so good to be giving our little honey the best stuff.

This week we did snow peas.

I recently purchased the generic brand baby food processor from babies r us.  There are some pretty expensive ‘baby food makers’ out there, but I thought I’d give this one a shot.  I love it!  Works great, even when making a puree out of peas – which are so small and sometimes difficult in blenders.  And it’s under $30, can’t beat that!

All we had to do is shell the peas, wash and boil them, add a little breast milk and put them in the processor and voila!!  Easy pea-sy.

Not every day can be a homemade day.  But when they are – they sure are sweet.

I’m a family gal.

I’m a family gal & last week my parents were here for a visit.  What fun!  I am very fortunate to have my parents and my in-laws both living only 2 hours away.  It had been about a month and a half since my parents had spent time with Sadie so they were overjoyed to come with us to her weekly Gymboree class.  Baby Gymboree is a fantastically fun activity if you have a little one.  As Devin likes to refer to it… it’s baby gymnastics! (but not really.)  It’s a 45 minute class where we hug and kiss our babies and sing them lullabies, we play with toys and finger puppets and work on mobility, socializing, visual tracking and trust.   I’ve watched Sadie blossom since going to these classes.  She’s actually very close to sitting on her own at only 4 months!

But, back to my folks coming to visit.

After we enjoyed singing and dancing at Gymboree we headed over to a burger joint to meet with my sister and brother.  While we sat there sipping our sodas and munching on onion rings I looked around the table at my family and realized that I couldn’t remember that last time we had all been together, just us, without husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc.  It needed to be documented.

*Sadie is there as well, but she’s asleep in her stroller, so it doesn’t count.

Dad also got a baby of his own recently.  He has been talking about getting a German Shepard puppy for a long time now.  And I’m glad he did.  He deserves it.  So he is now the proud Papa to a big pawed, floppy eared puppy named Apollo.  It really is the cutest thing.  I periodically get texts from my Dad saying things like, “A mother’s job is never done!” and “My baby is already potty trained, is yours?”  It’s nice to have another new Mom to relate to, haha.

Going out to dinner with a baby is a lot easier when Grandma is there.  I actually got to eat my dinner while it was still warm!  I can’t remember the last time that has happened.

And in non-family-visiting related news… we had our 4 month well visit with the pediatrician recently and he wanted us to start introducing solids to Sadie.  We decided to start her on avocados this week.  So exciting!  I’m deciding to attempt to make my own baby food.  So far so good.  Sadie was a bit reluctant in the beginning with the avocados, but now after several days she seems to really like it.  Next week – carrots!
