The Jam

We got a quick visit from Aunt Jam Jam and Uncle Jason last weekend.  Here’s a brief look into some moments of our time with the Jam.

Look at these newly weds.  Still can’t their eyes (or hands) off each other.  : )

happy visits/birthday/easter

Hectic is a good word to sum up the past month and a half.  Hence, the lack of updates on the blog.  Instead of taking my time and thoughtfully creating an entry for every separate event, I’m going to lump them all together in a giant photo bomb.  Because you know what…  we’ve had new visitors every weekend for the past 5 weekends in a row.  On a few occasions we’ve had 3 different guests in one week.  I only have about half of the people even pictured in these photos and I don’t have much time to write because guess what?  I have to clean up the house from Devin’s birthday, Easter and my brother’s visit all before my parents get here in a few hours for their week-long stay.

I don’t even mind it though.  In fact, I just added another house guest(s) onto the calendar for after my parents’ visit.

Party on Wayne.

Easter is being postponed a day this year to wait for Grandma and Pop-pop’s visit.  But we tried to get into the spirit and dyed some eggs.

Devin was still feeling the spirit of his birthday from the night before.

Hoppy Easter to all of you. :)

holidays to the max

It’s here, officially.  The busy season is well in motion.  The holidays are a busy time for all.  It gets crazy.  Cramming in visiting family, having visitors, dinners, celebrations, gift giving and receiving… it’s exhausting!  Our busy season started in October and it’s really starting to now pick up some steam.

We have our anniversary Oct 3,  Sadie’s birthday Oct 19, Halloween Oct 31st.  November we have my birthday November 18th, Thanksgiving a week later.  And December brings Hannukkah usually mid-month, Xmas on the 25th, my sisters bday on the 27th, NYE on the 31st.  And then my dad’s bday on January 12th!!!  It’s madness.

But it’s oh so fun.

It’s really starting to turn into Autumn ’round here.  The trees all look like they are on fire with their bright red, yellow, orange and brown leaves.  It makes the sidewalk crunch wherever you walk.  The air is getting crisp.  We switched out our light summer blanket for our thick comforter.  It feels nice to live in a place that actually has noticeable seasons.  I feel festive.  More than I’ve ever felt before.

I’m usually spending my evenings crafting, cuddled underneath a blanket enjoying a whiskey.  It’s this new cold night ritual that I hope continues well into the warm nights next year.

Today is my birthday.  My sister and childhood friend Stephi are traveling up here to take me out.  It’ll be my first time at a club or dancing in 2 years.  Crazy how time flies.  Hopefully I can remember how to dance, or dress cute.  Then tomorrow my folks get in, ad they’ll be here for a week to spend Thanksgiving here.   Devin’s parents will also be up later in the week to join us for Thanksgiving.

This will be my very first year ever hosting and cooking a Thanksgiving feast.  I’m really looking forward to it, but also a little nervous having my first time being on such seasoned feast-makers.  Mom and mom-in-law have been doing this for 30 years!  Hopefully they cut me some slack if things aren’t Top Chef perfect. :)

Sadie is still not walking.  But she gets around just fine.  I mean, who needs to walk when you have your very own personal finger-holder that will escort you anywhere you please?  I’m fine with her taking her time to take that big step in life, but for real my back is killing me.

No rush Sadie my love, you take your time.

Not to be a broken record… but we are very busy right now.  So, I have a hunch you might not hear from us for a week.  If not, I hope everyone has a beautiful holiday filled with lots of love, friends, family and food.

Of course, if girlfriend decides she wants to start walking – I’ll get to posting that ASAP!

Until next time….

such sweet sorrow

You know ole’ Billy Shakespeare says it perfectly – parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight til it be morrow.

This morning Sadie and I drove Jamie to the airport.  Her 5 day trip with us came to an end.  We had such a wonderful time.  As much as I miss my family in SoCal, I have to admit that I very much enjoyed having this real quality time with my sister.  While we lived in the same city for the past 10 years, we never spent 5 days uninterrupted together like that.  I’m really diggin the designated hang out time that living apart provides.

But our farewell was not so much sorrow, it was moreover on the sweet side.  Because I get to see her tomorrow too!!!

Weird, I know.  But we are flying back to LA tomorrow for her engagement party.  And there will be entirely too much love and celebration going on tomorrow that even when it comes time to leave and head back to the airport (2 flights in one day, ugh!) that there will be no tears and long embraces.  I know we will see each other again very soon.

I mean, Sadie does turn 1 in just a few weeks… and there might just be a birthday party being planned if you know what I mean.  Shhh… don’t tell Sadie!

While Jamie was here we spent time walking, beaching, boating, lots of eating, shopping, talking and bar going.  I enjoyed showing her around my new home.  And enjoyed watching Sadie cling to her and love her like she was her best friend of all time – it was too cute.

Look at Jamie workin’ it.  She’s just walking through the farmers market and had no idea I even took this picture.  She is just naturally that statuesque. (don’t be mad at me for taking this photo Jamie!!)

One thing I could’ve lived without… Jamie is so good with Sadie and kept her cracking up the entire time she was here.  Now I am on like double duty trying to keep her entertained like Aunt Jam Jam did.  Great.  Thanks James, thanks for setting the bar that much higher.

catching up…

It feels like the theme for the past 5 days or so has been catching up.  My ahhhhmazing Aunt Marilyn flew into town with her daughter/ my cousin Alanna last week.  Last I saw both of them I was about 4 1/2 months pregnant with Sadie and celebrating my cousin Brian’s wedding in Tennessee.  The last time I saw my cousin Alanna before that, was nearly 14 years ago at a family reunion back east.  She was about 5 or 6 years old.  Saying we needed to catch up on lost time is an understatement.  We basically needed to meet.  But that’s the thing about family.  No matter how long it’s been, you pick up where you left off and everything just falls into place so seamlessly.  Family takes zero effort.  It just feels so natural.

It was the first time Aunt Marilyn and Alanna got to meet Sadie.  And once again, everything just fell into place.  It was as if Sadie has been around them her whole life.  She was loving every minute.

We split our time between LA and SD.  We did all the sight-seeing imaginable in LA and then closed the week out with an epic BBQ at mom and dad’s house in SD.  Nothing beats a little fresh smog-free air, burgers, family and a little pool time.

The trip was short and great.  And I am so looking forward to our next gathering.  I love them so.

I also managed to squeeze in a little breakfast play date with my dear friend Amber.  Amber has been off creating her world of wonderful-ness all around the globe.  She moved away from LA years ago to live in NY and then flew off to London after that!  So, it’s been years… Catching up was a serious necessity.

Aaaand… the BIGGEST part of the weekend (as if all of that wasn’t enough) is that my beautiful sister Jamie got engaged!!

I’m so thrilled for her & her fiance Jason.  It’s going to be a great year leading up to their wedding.  And what a beautiful union those two will make.  I couldn’t be happier.  And neither could she – she is absolutely beaming!  And check out the ring!  Jason spent the last 6 months designing it!

So…  after all of the excitement and catching up.  I had some “catching up” of my own to do… laundry.  And Sadie wanted to help.
