Planes, Trains and Automobiles aaand Zebras.

For our long Thanksgiving Holiday weekend Grandparents Foley came up to keep us some company.  What was expected to be a gloomy and rainy few days turned out to be not so bad at all.

Like almost every other American we celebrated Thanksgiving.  My sweet, thoughtful, amazing and hunky husband went ahead and ordered a pre-cooked Thanksgiving meal for us while I was away on my girls trip the weekend before, so that I wouldn’t have to be cooking all day.  Turned out that the “pre-cooked” meal did indeed require quite a bit of cooking after all.  And of course I wanted to add some of the dishes that are a tradition in our household that were not included in the pre-ordered meal.

But all in all it wasn’t too hectic.  Things went smooth and delicious if I don’t say so myself.  Plus this was the first year I’ve done Thanksgiving dinner all on my own.  Last year was my first year hosting, but my mother was here and did at least half of the work : )

Sadie got to celebrate yet another birthday.  Her Grandparents hadn’t seen her since her birthday in October so they came bearing gifts.  I think she is expecting a birthday party at least once a month at this point.  And the fact that Hanukkah is in a week and Christmas 2 weeks later isn’t helping…  what a rough life this poor kid has.

After reviewing the photos from the weekend I realize besides for eating and opening gifts we apparently rode a lot of rides!

We took Sadie to the steam trains in Tilden Park for the first time.  It turned out to be way cooler than I thought it would be and I’m looking forward to going again sometime soon.  I also found out that dogs are allowed on too… maybe Berkeley would want a little choo choo action in her life.

And of course the trusty ol’ zoo always has everything that this child could possibly want: a petting zoo, animals, a playground and of course more rides.

But mostly our holiday was spent lounging around the house being cozy and strolling the neighborhood as it begins to turn very colorful and festive for the Christmas season.

Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one and welcome to December!  Just remembered… isn’t the world ending in like a few days??

adventures of the toothless wonder

Here we are… one week shy of Sadie’s 9 month birthday.  She is growing fast.  She’s a big girl with hefty thighs.  Her hair is coming in by leaps and bounds and her personality is full blown outrageous.  But she still has ZERO teeth!  Not even the slightest hint of a tooth!  She is the only baby I know at her age that still has that big gummy grin.  And I loooooove it!

I’m so happy she’s still my little toothless, non-crawling baby.  She can take all the time in the world, Mama is loving holding onto these precious baby months.

The toothless wonder had a big weekend.  She saw lots of friends and family and went to some new places, and some of the old places as well.

Her friend Camilla came by and we went to this new park by the house that has a splash pad.  It’s so great!  It was all bigger kids and might have been a tad intimidating for this little gummy chomper, so we mostly stayed on the grassy side lines and blew bubbles.

We also finally reunited with Sadie’s best gal pal Georgia, who by the way – crawls, claps, waves, has tons of teeth and STANDS!  They are the same age btw.

Devin’s parents also came up for the weekend which was so nice for everyone.  The past few times we have seen them has been in a group setting, which didn’t make great for grandma + baby time.  So, I’m glad we got some of that much needed snuggle fest in.  Before the in-laws showed up, Devin’s friend stopped in to say hello and snapped some pro-quality photos of the toothless super-baby.  Dad tried to entertain baby during her big shoot.  I don’t know if she bought into it, but it sure was entertaining for me to watch!

Grandma & Grandpa’s visit consisted of the Echo Park Lotus Festival, a walk through the neighborhood, lunch at Gigi’s, dinner at Cowboys and Turbans, breakfast at Masa, you know – just a few things.

This whirlwind weekend was wrapped up by a late in the day impromptu visit to the LA Zoo, with just Mom, Dad and Gummy, herself.  She loves the Zoo.  I think she thinks all of the people crowded into one area are there to see her, not the giraffes.  And she also loves her Dad.

Now that’s a weekend! Whew!

home away from home

Usually, a few days at Grandma & Pop-pop’s would yield quite a few photos, but since someone was little Miss Meltdown for most of the trip I was only able to sneak in a couple.

The new jacket and bumble-bee beanie were gifts from Grandma & Pop-pop from Baby Gap.  So cute!

Happy Memorial Weekend to all!  I hope your days are filled with sunshine and BBQ!  xo

Quiet Days

We’ve had some pretty quiet days as of late.  Nothing major happened, no big milestones were hit, nothing extraordinarily exciting was discovered – but it’s been nice.  Calm is good sometimes.

Sadie and I have been spending a lot of time outdoors lately.  At least an hour a day in the grass of a park or sitting in the backyard.  I guess we are just relishing in the calm before the storm.  In just a few days Devin heads off to NY for a tech meet-up and I’ll be packing up the girls (baby + dog) to head to Mom and Dad’s for the week to spend some time and take them up on the help they’ll offer me.  The day after Devin gets back we’ll be packing up once again and heading up to SF, this time it’ll be for 2 whole weeks!  Yikes!

Quiet sounds nice for now.  But, I am looking forward to seeing these people in just a few days.

an afternoon at the farm.

In a small country town within San Diego county lies a friendly little family farm called Bates Nut Farm.  I spent plenty of time here as a child.  My family would go here annually for picking out pumpkins in their Fall Pumpkin Patch that spanned for acres and acres.  Other times, we would go for antique car shows, craft fairs or sometimes just to feed grain to the sheep.  This time we went for no reason at all other than to simply enjoy it.

We brought along Berkeley and Dad’s new baby, Apollo.

On top of being a beautiful farm, Bates Nut Farm also has a shop full of wonderful treats.  I mean seriously, all of the nuts, jams, candies and dried fruits you could imagine.

My sweet next to some sweets.

Honestly, I wish I had a million photos of Sadie smiling and enjoying the grass and animals, but she slept the entire time.  So here’s all I got.
